about the collection
i think this feeling is hope is hazyn’s first poetry collection, featuring pieces written over several years whilst dealing with and recovering from various mental health experiences.
it shows the raw journey from being a teenager battling with ocd and intrusive thoughts, through the stress of being away from home for the first time for university causing a development into psychosis, to the process of recovery.
through the years, hazyn not only found out how to live with mental illness, but grew to understand themselves more deeply and come to terms with their sexuality and personal identity.
what to expect
this collection spans five years of writing, tracing a path from grief and obsessive compulsions through episodes of psychosis, to the slow work of recovery and rediscovery. it is not a linear narrative, but a record of moments — jagged, tender, and raw.
readers will encounter pieces that confront anxiety, trauma, self-harm, and toxic relationships, alongside poems that celebrate growth, queer love, and the fragile joy of allowing hope to take root. the voice matures across the pages: from the helplessness of adolescence, to the cautious optimism of early adulthood.
above all, i think this feeling is hope is about learning to let go of fear, accept impermanence, and hold onto the beauty found in fleeting connections. it is messy, honest, and — ultimately — healing.
