about the book

built first as a one-of-a-kind handmade object, rosie is a mixed-media picture story in which every page is assembled from reclaimed paper, blue gingham tape, and graphite drawings. each word is handwritten; the ghosts of old receipts, labels, and packaging show faintly through the paper, hinting at the lives and objects that came before.

the book follows rosie—a small rabbit—as she searches for safety in a quiet, ruined landscape. she moves through soft grass and weeds, listens to strange groans on the wind, hides between roots and stones, and watches huge, uncanny shapes pass overhead. the world feels eerie yet gentle, held together by silence, clover, and dusty light.

this edition brings the original handmade pages into a hardback landscape volume, preserving the taped spine, uneven edges, and textured graphite as part of the reading experience.

what to expect

rosie reads like a lyrical picture-book for adults and older teens. the text is spare and line-broken—closer to prose–poetry than to traditional prose—and each spread pairs short handwritten lines with quiet, graphite illustrations.

the tone is softly dystopian: there are broken fences, empty fields, and large shambling figures that move beyond the grass. there is no graphic violence, but there is unease—the smell of rot, strange sounds, and hints of what once lived here. against this, rosie’s instincts, small body, and stubborn gentleness become a kind of survival spell.

readers who enjoy quiet apocalypse stories, eerie-cute folk art, and hybrid works that sit between art-book, storybook, and poetry will likely feel at home in rosie’s world.
